Installing and upgrading

How to install AppClarity in your organization.

Installing AppClarity

AppClarity is installed through 1E setup. The Select Configuration section of setup allows you to choose whether to install AppClarity. Refer to 1E Server setup.

If you use 1E 9.1 you will need to enable the following settings in the SLA-Shared database. You will need to do this to access data needed for AppClarity.

Copy
UPDATE [SLA-Data]..Component
SET IsEnabled = 1
WHERE Name IN (
'Calculate Inventory Aggregate For Non Global MGs',
    'Calculate Software Usage'
)

The AppClarity, 1E Catalog, SLA Platform and 1E Server installers are bundled together and are installed using a single installation process. They do not need to be installed separately.

Upgrading AppClarity 6.1.100 to AppClarity 7.1.0

Before upgrading AppClarity, refer to 1E Server setup and Installing AppClarity for full installation instructions.

  1. To upgrade from AppClarity 6.1.100 to AppClarity 7.1.0 follow these steps:

  2. Run Tachyon Setup to upgrade to AppClarity 8.1

  3. Once the upgrade has completed, execute the attached post upgrade database script (see Running the post upgrade database script section below) for data cleansing and correction as a part of your post upgrade activity.Ensure this script is successfully executed.

  4. To include the latest data, run an Inventory sync (a Basic Inventory Consolidation refresh is enough). Then, refresh the following reports in the same order:

    1. LDC reports for - Microsoft Core LDC, Oracle Processor LDC, IBM Processor Value Unit (PVU) LDC, Red Hat Socket LDC

    2. Entitlement Consolidation report

    3. Compliance report

    4. Reclaim Consolidation report

    5. Reclaim Reporting report

Running the post upgrade database script

For assistance, please contact your Professional Services representative or Customer Success contact.

When the script is run, it performs a retention of:

  • Policy data (which are in process under Policy Admin section)

  • Policy historical data and their correct status

If you do not run the script, there is an expectation that:

  • Reclaim is setup in AppClarity 6.1.100 with some reclaimable policies

  • Some reclaim policies have already resulted in successful reclaims

  • Few reclaims are in process (i.e. needs administrator action by accepting or rejecting their opt-out requests)

  • Reclaim History displays for some reclaim transactions

After a successful upgrade to AppClarity 8.1, if the Post_Upgrade_ProviderOperation script is not run, then:

  • In transit reclaims (i.e. which are to be accepted or rejected by an administrator), will be lost or unstable behavior may observe

  • History status of reclaim transactions, which had been opt-out, would be spoiled and may display an incorrect status.

If reclaim is not correctly configured or simply not being used (as in, no reclaimable policy exists or is published), and the post upgrade database script is run there should be no observable errors, but there may be some unwanted behavior in the application.

We do not recommend running the post upgrade database script if reclaim is not correctly configured or simply not being used.
